Heartburn (GERD) remedies?

Anyone have any tips for managing heartburn or GERD aside from things like prilosec or Tums?
Hoping to find something that just soothes it. Seems like water is that instant relief but obviously, doesn't last.

My experience as one who suffers from GERD (my whole life) is that smaller dinners help as well as no food 3 hours before lying down. Probiotics can also be a great benefit.

I also find that NOT eating past 8pm, limiting acidic foods like salsa, oranges, etc. and eating smaller, more frequent meals works pretty well for me. Also, talk to your Dr about managing the acid to get it under control before self diagnosing and eating too many OTC pills.
Thank you for this! My dad does not have IBD but he has horrible GERD!

Wanted to add that I've recently resumed taking Prilosec because my GERD has returned. However, I refuse to take it daily, so I've been doing every other day for now, and it seems to be helping. :-)
